Se7en (1995)

by admin on Feb.25, 2010, under Crime

Movie: Se7en (1995)

“A film about two homicide detectives’ desperate hunt for a serial killer who justifies his crimes as absolution for the world’s ignorance of the Seven Deadly Sins. The movie takes us from the tortured remains of one victim to the next as the sociopathic “John Doe” sermonizes to Detectives Sommerset and Mills — one sin at a time. The sin of Gluttony comes first and the murderer’s terrible capacity is graphically demonstrated in the dark and subdued tones characteristic of film noir. The seasoned and cultured Sommerset researches the Seven Deadly Sins in an effort to know the killer’s modus operandi while green Detective Mills scoffs at his efforts to get inside the mind of a killer… Written by Mark Fleetwood {mfleetwo@mail.coin.missouri.edu}”

  • Director: David Fincher
  • Release Date:
    22 September 1995 (USA)
  • Run Time:
    127 min
  • Country: USA
  • Genre: Crime , Drama , Mystery , Thriller
  • MPAA:
Rated R for grisly afterviews of horrific and bizarre killings, and for strong language.

Tagline: Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light.

Trivia: Before Kevin Spacey was set to shoot his first scene, he questioned director David Fincher if he should shave his head for the role. David Fincher answered “If you do it, I’ll do it.” Both Fincher and Spacey were bald for the remainder of the movie production.

Goofs: Revealing mistakes: The dead gluttony victim can be seen breathing.

The Godfather (1972)

by admin on Feb.21, 2010, under Crime

Movie: The Godfather (1972)

“The tale starts as “Don” Vito Corleone, the head of a New York Mafia “family”, oversees his daughter’s wedding. His beloved son Michael has just come home from the war, but does not intend to become part of his father’s business. Through Michael’s life the nature of the family business becomes clear. The business of the family is just like the head of the family, kind and benevolent to those who give respect, but given to ruthless violence whenever anything stands against the excellent of the family. Don Vito lives his life in the way of the ancient country, but times are changing and some don’t want to follow the ancient ways and look out for community and “family”. An up and coming rival of the Corleone family wants to start selling drugs in New York, and needs the Don’s influence to further his plot. The clash of the Don’s fading ancient world values and the new ways will demand a terrible price, especially from Michael, all for the sake of the family. Written by Charlie Ness”

  • Director: Francis Ford Coppola
  • Release Date:
    24 March 1972 (USA)
  • Run Time:
    175 min
  • Country: USA
  • Genre: Crime , Drama , Thriller

Tagline: An offer you can't refuse.

Trivia: Paramount’s original thought was to make this a low-budget gangster film set in the present rather than a period piece set in the 1940s and 1950s. Francis Ford Coppola rejected Mario Puzo’s original script based on this thought.

Goofs: Revealing mistakes: The eyes in the severed horse’s head have obvious cataracts (which are typically caused by ancient age and/or degenerative diseases such as diabetes). That is hardly what you’d expect to find in a champion stallion in the prime of his life.
